In 2011, Pennsylvania American Water Company put a number of tanks out for repainting work. Among them were two 1,000,000-gallon standpipes located in Berwick, PA. These tanks were last painted in the late 1980s and were in desperate need of refurbishment. They had an exterior urethane system and an interior epoxy system. The original paint was supplied by Pennsbury Coatings Corporation. Continue reading Five-Year Anniversary Inspection on PA American Tank→
Pennsylvania State University, located in State College, PA, recently undertook a massive water improvement project. The project involved raising and repainting two elevated tanks and demolishing, replacing and painting another. Though each tank rehabilitation presented unique challenges and involved varying contractors, Induron supplied the specified paints for the entire project. Recently, the Villanova Wildcats defeated the University of North Carolina Tarheels to win the NCAA National Championship as an undersized, scrappy, disciplined and determined unit.
Growing up in Philadelphia, I played my share of basketball. I also grew up watching the Big Five play and loved every minute of it. LaSalle, St. Joe’s, Temple, Penn and Villanova all had their shot playing the big guys from across the country. These games were especially fun to watch. Though I opted to go to college in D.C., I continued to keep track of the national successes of these teams. Continue reading How Induron is like the National Champions in College Basketball→
Living in this increasingly litigious world, we sometimes forget (or are too young to remember) what it was like in the days when everything didn’t have to be notarized or written in triplicate.
Early in my career, which currently spans about 45 years, I was required to visit a job site and certify that the blasted areas of the exterior surface of a water tank were cleared to be primed and that the previously-primed areas had the required film thickness stated in the specifications. Last week, fellow Induron Sales Representative, Linc York and our President, Davies Hood kicked off the Importance of Goals blog series with a post focusing on making SMART goals and celebrating successes. Check out his blog post here. Today, I’m going to illustrate how setting goals has fueled my career at Induron.
Some projects move right along and stay on course from the beginning with little or no challenge. This is a good thing, but what’s the fun in that? One project we did a few years ago proved to be an opportunity for forward thinking and innovation in the midst of complexities.
When I.K. Stoltzfus was hired to repaint a wash water tank and a two million-gallon clearwell for Aqua Pennsylvania at their Pickering treatment facility, they contacted Induron for the tools for the job. The Pickering Water Treatment Plant services approximately 1 million customers in Southeast Pennsylvania and produces more than 55 million gallons of treated water daily. It is a critical component to the area served by Aqua PA. For this reason, the project was scheduled to be done between October 1 and June 15 when demand for water would be at its lowest. Oftentimes, national conventions are dominated by large companies who have the money and manpower to overwhelm attendees with ostentatious displays and aisle space. Smaller companies must be much more selective in their approach. Because their budgets are much smaller, their focus must be on careful planning and targeted customer selection.
