In the fall of 2024, U.S. Tank Painting completed the recoating of a 1.2-million-gallon standpipe owned by New Jersey American Water. The project’s success was hard-earned, overcoming a unique set of challenges involving metal repairs, comprehensive interior and exterior blasting with containment, and the added difficulty of working within a small site footprint.
The project challenges
“Maintaining our water infrastructure is crucial to ensuring reliable service for the communities we serve,” said Kenny Jarros of New Jersey American Water. “A proactive tank maintenance plan allows us to address issues before they become critical, extending the life of our assets and avoiding costly emergency repairs. This approach not only preserves the integrity of our infrastructure but also provides peace of mind for our customers, knowing that we are committed to delivering safe, clean water every day.”
The tight working space required careful project planning and containment setup for blasting operations. Additionally, performing necessary metal repairs and maintaining high-quality standards throughout the recoating process demanded a skilled and efficient team.

The coatings solution
Induron Protective Coatings provided a comprehensive solution to ensure the tank’s long-term performance and aesthetic appeal. The interior surfaces were protected with a combination of Ceramaprime, PE-70, and PermaClean 100. PermaClean 100, a 100% solids, thick-film, solvent-free epoxy, offers exceptional durability and extends the tank’s lifespan.
For the exterior, Ceramaprime, Indurethane 6600+, and Perma-Gloss were applied. The Perma-Gloss topcoat was chosen not only for its superior color and gloss retention but also to prominently feature a new logo incorporating Hainesport Township’s 100th anniversary tagline, “Rich History, Bright Future,” reflecting community pride.
Tom Sulkowski of U.S. Tank Painting praised Induron’s product performance, noting, “Induron’s products are fantastic to work with. Their user-friendly application properties make the job smoother and more efficient. These coatings help us deliver high-quality results that stand the test of time.”
