A New Generation of Protective Coatings

By: Tom Wunderlin, Induron Sales Representative

Are today’s “new coatings” superior to the “old coatings” and systems used to protect water storage tanks?  The answer is yes for many of the coatings now on the market. The protective coatings industry is navigating complicated VOC compliance regulations. The adaptation and enforcement of these new, and more aggressive VOC regulations (link to part 1) has produced a new generation of protective coatings for potable water tanks. Safety and Efficiency: Mutually Exclusive?

By Mike Nelms, Induron Production Manager

Can you be safe AND efficient? Absolutely – if you practice safety and efficiency in the correct fashion.

We’re all looking to be more efficient in our daily tasks, but safety is paramount. How many times have you heard someone in your facility say, “If you put a guard on that, it will slow me down!”?

The key to countering statements like that is to ensure you’re installing the RIGHT type of safety guard for the process being performed, the ergonomics and the machine type itself. Why Do We Still Need More Worker Safety Reports?

Here in the United States, we pride ourselves on safety. At Induron, we have monthly meetings taught by outside professionals on a whole host of safety topics – fire safety, safe practices for lifting with overhead cranes, proper use of respirators, and many, many more. We launched, last year, a new incentive program for our staff to reinforce how seriously we take safety at Induron. We ended 2013 as one of our safest reporting years ever, thanks to our staff’s commitment to keeping their workplace safe.

You wouldn’t think that industries in this country were in any way lacking in safety practices and oversights, because of agencies like OSHA, educational and training policies like Induron’s, and the industry’s overall improving safety record. Improving Worker Safety

By Jeff White, Induron Sales Manager

I’m not much on “big government,” and sometimes, in my opinion, many regulations are arbitrary. Regulations for regulation’s sake never helped anybody. However, when it comes to worker safety, we’ve got to continually improve and maintain focus to make sure all of us get home to our families safely every day.

This article from Paint Square News outlines a few upcoming regulations from OSHA that focus on improving the safety of the industrial coatings industry. We’re glad to have them, and look forward to implementing them in our work!
