By: Yvette Abadie Box, Induron Senior Chemist
Last week I had the privilege of joining the team representing Induron at the 26th Annual Alabama Manufacturer of the Year Awards Luncheon in Montgomery. This nomination is the result of Induron’s innovation, and strides made in the past and present.
Over the past two years, we have made strategic investments in talent and modernization of lab and plant equipment to support our growing customer base. It was no surprise to me that our entire 39-member team was receiving recognition. We see it daily, but entering the awards ceremony gave new gravitas to our impact. There are 3 categories for large, medium, and small companies as well as a newcomer award for companies under 10 years old. It was an honor to be seated with other Alabamians making an impact all over the state. One of the highlights that came out of this was meeting a new potential customer with vision aligned with our own. Being a privately-held third-generation company was a large factor in determining I wanted to be a part of this team.
Often in Research & Development, we become focused on analyzing problems and creating solutions. What sets us apart is that Induron has core values, and we as a team put it into action. Strides were made in launching new versions of products and improving upon current versions. These are including but not limited to Cold Cure Ceramaprime, Perma-Clean 100 SL, and Induraguard 9200. Knowing that our management is committed to not only making our present good but also looking to the future, makes us unique. I have been in the CASE industry for almost 20 years as both a scientist and a salesperson, and this is a rare gem to find companies like Induron. We have the advantage of interdepartmental accountability and a unified goal: to make Reliable Protection through Innovative Coatings.
All in all, it was truly an honor to be selected as a finalist for this award. The impact of supporting our local Birmingham community, the southeast and the state of Alabama is not always seen by the public. This was a reminder and affirmation that we are supporting critical public health and safety infrastructure crucial to daily life.
Water tanks, transmission towers, and wastewater systems are probably not something you think about daily, yet they are critical to a harmonious society. Knowing we make a difference in protecting surfaces that impact actual lives gives what we do meaning. When I looked around the room, all I could see were people who care about the communities they live in. That’s what makes working here different from other jobs. Although we did not secure the win, I think there is a good chance we will be nominated again. I am proud of the work we do and the team that we have, and I think the other 38 people here will agree.
